Presenter Bio Marta Johann

Marta Johann is currently based in Lander, WY, but her work has taken her all over the globe. Her experience ranges from twenty-plus years of riding and starting horses, packing mules, training stock, restarting rescues, and learning from some of the world’s preeminent horsemanship trainers.

Marta started and packed horses and mules in the U.S. through the Eastern Sierras and the Wind River Range in the Rockies and across the Australian High Country. She has studied with respected trainers across the U.S. and Australia and has been able to observe and compare many different horsemanship methods on different breeds and a variety of situations.

Pulling from the traditions of Vaquero horsemanship and the ideas that form the base of natural horsemanship, Marta aims to build a foundation in each horse that will create confidence and relaxation. She focuses on working with the horse by building communication that will allow the horse to work with understanding which will promote softness and willingness. She believes that starting horses, at any age, should be based in patience and embracing the individuality of each horse, and will lead to a solid partnership.

As with many endeavors, however, there is no end to what Marta can learn about working with horses. The process of developing trust and a common language with horses requires patience, humility, and confidence, and she has only just begun to find those qualities in equal balance.

Because Of The Horse...

I have had the opportunity to learn and practice being present, developing patience and creating unity.
