As a result, she founded Kandoo Equine and has developed a series of ethical, easy to follow, step-by-step online courses that are suitable for horses and riders of all levels.

Because Of The Horse...

I have spent the last two decades looking for a better way of training, a method that works WITH the horse and FOR the horse. The journey has taken me across four continents, exposed me to myriad horses and different training and behavioural concerns but the thing that really stands out for me is the people and their deep desire to do the very best by their beautiful horses.

DAY 1

Working With The Rearing Horse

Rearing is a very backwards movement and often the result of fear or frustration. It is usually met with punishment, further exacerbating the horse's level of anxiety. While it's a very undesirable behaviour for us as riders or handlers, it's a behaviour that has worked well for the horse in the past. For this reason, we want to give the horse alternative answers in movement, such as go forward or turn. Teaching advanced inside turns allows you to remain proactive, teaches your horse to go forward and stay in the engagement zone.

DAY 2

What Is Positive Reinforcement In Horse Training?

There is some confusion about positive and negative reinforcement in horse training and it's important that horse riders and handlers understand the difference because the correct use of reinforcement can greatly improve training results and your horses learning experience. Here we discuss operant conditioning and the difference between reinforcement and punishment and how you can use combined reinforcement to provide clarity and simplicity with all of your horse training and handling. This session is all about the practical application of equitation science to everyday horse ownership.
