⭑Presenter Bio Clare Frost⭑
At the age of 20 Clare had a motorcycle accident and nearly died. She suffered a brain injury and broken bones, and also lost her spleen. Recovery was poor, and despite her research and practice of therapies and techniques such as acupuncture, Alexander Technique, homeopathy, and many more, her health deteriorated over the years. She gradually lost her ability to socialize, and then to work and eventually to look after her horses.
By the end of the 1990s, Clare was bedridden. After 2 years in bed, she came across the Buteyko breathing method and learnt that her breathing was extremely bad and that Buteyko breathing offered a way to improve her breathing and recover her health. Through a stroke of luck, she was able to learn the Buteyko method from a protégé of Professor Buteyko, and she made an incredible recovery. She started to train as a Buteyko practitioner, but one day watching her horse, she had a startling insight.
Her horse, a thoroughbred called Cuilrane, had developed severe headshaking in his twenties. On this day, Clare realised that he was massively over breathing and so according to the science behind Buteyko's method, if she could get him to reduce his breathing he would recover. She and Cuilrane together developed a techniqe for improving his breathing and the result was dramatic. Cuilrane not only recovered from headshaking but also a range of other problems such as difficulty retaining condition and separation anxiety. Aged 28 he was literally bouncing around the place; a joy to see.
Clare started working with other horses and became convinced that most people could apply her technique and therefore many horses could be helped. She created a website in 2000 making the basic1N technique available for free, and Equine Breathing was born. It's now used by people all over the world to help their horses recover from a wide range of symptoms such as asthma, headshaking and cribbing.

★Breathing, Biomechanics - and 2 Mustang Mares
Clare Frost, founder of Equine Breathing talks to Finnish rider and sports coach Katariina Alongi. Through developing her coaching from a biomechanical base to include mindfulness and emotional agility skills, Katariina has come to realize the full extent of the role of breathing. She's found that improving a rider's breathing pattern has a direct improvement on the performance of not only the rider but also the breathing and performance of the horse. Katariina then wondered if horses' breathing could be improved directly. She searched online and found Equine Breathing - which answered her question! She set up a group of equestrian coaches in Finland who are using 1N Equine Breathing to reduce asymmetry and improve performance. They're getting impressive results.
