About Amy Skinner
I am an avid student of the horse and have spent my whole life looking for and developing quality horsemanship.
I have been riding since I was 6 years old, taking lessons whenever and wherever I was able while I moved around with my military family. I have ridden with many incredible horsemen and women, but my biggest influencers have been Theresa Doherty, a student of Egon von Neindorff, and Brent Graef.
My training program works for all breeds and disciplines and focuses on promoting softness, balance, and relaxation.
With classical dressage basics and an emphasis on lightness and relaxation, I believe that any horse can improve given enough time and understanding. Working with the horse’s mind develops confidence, and an understanding of biomechanics develops correct and sound movement.
Amy’s 2024 Presentations
Catching With Straightness In Mind
Did you know that your everyday moments develop a mind frame and build a postural habit for your horse?
Learn how drive lines work, how to present yourself calmly and clearly, and how to keep your horse straight and connected during catching.
Learn to understand from your horse's perspective how catching affects their learning and their posture, and develop a better feel toward your horse.
Haltering With Straightness In Mind
Everything we do affects ours horse's mind and body. Do you tune out when haltering, and throw the halter over sloppily? It’s easy to develop mental and physical braces, and teach the horse to tune us out.
Just becoming more aware of how we halter, and presenting the halter with better feel, can teach our horses to relax the neck and poll, to be straighter and happier, and to develop a better connection with us.
